Making Email Work for You

The speed and informality of email can be a dangerous combination.  This workshop provides hands on training in composing emails that maximizes accurate communication while minimizing misunderstanding.  Use best practices in emailing to take advantage of email's strengths.  Learn to project a professional image electronically and take control of your inbox. 

Topics Include:

  • Planning your email message

  • Composing emails that capture your readers' attention, deliver a clear message, and get results

  • Identifying and eliminating major errors in email

  • Reading, responding to, and storing your email

  • Making a professional impression via email

This workshop will increase your effectiveness and efficiency in email communication, both externally and internally.

Presenter:
Janet Worthington, Dr. Worthington has taught technical writing for over twenty years.  She established the Technical Writing Program for the Community and Technical College of West Virginia Institute of Technology and served as the coordinator for 5 years.  In addition, she taught courses in technical and business writing for West Virginia Tech and Nicholls State University in Louisiana.  She currently is teaching the graduate technical writing course for the Educational Technology Program at Boise State University. 

Dr. Worthington has presented workshops on business and technical writing for professionals in manufacturing, government, and non-profit organizations.  Dr. Worthington received a PhD from Florida State University in English Education.  Her publications include technical articles and books on such varied topics as robotics and teaching literature.  In addition she has served as a reviewer for technical writing textbooks.
